The Aluminium Oxid Stade GmbH (AOS) alumina refinery was built in the Stade-Bützfleth industrial zone between 1970 - 1973.

The alumina plant is spread over an area of 55 hectares (approx. 133 acres), and boasts of an outstanding infrastructure.

The production was started up at the end of 1973. Due to permanent improvements of the process and production facilities, we have been able to increase the nominal production capacity of 600,000 to the current level of approx. 1,080,000 metric tons of alumina per year. At the same time, specific emissions have been significantly reduced.

Aluminium Oxid Stade GmbH is a tolling company, owned by DADCO Alumina & Chemicals. The technology was supplied by the former Vereinigte Aluminium-Werke AG.

The raw material for alumina production, bauxite, is provided by the owner Dadco Alumina & Chemicals. They sell the final product as alumina for use in smelters and aluminium hydroxide for various global industrial businesses.

Thanks to the continuing improvement in technology being used in Stade today, the plant produces "sandy"-alumina of high purity which meets customers specifications the world over. With the help of wet oxidation which was developed after the plant startup, a very white hydrate is produced, both in dried or wet form. The products can be shipped by water, rail or road.

The high standard of production and quality is also ensured by our integrated management system. The function of the systems is confirmed by the certification of the standards DIN EN ISO 9001, DIN EN ISO 14001, DIN EN ISO 50001 and OHSAS 18001. A major portion of this involves the continuous training of all employees, as shown by the "Creativity Offensive" named GMBH ("Gemeinsam Mehr Bewegen Helfen": "Set more things in motion by mutual help").
